If anyone is needing support because they've decided to wear the head covering or they are being harrassed/not accepted by people because of their choices concerning the modest way they dress and cover, feel free to email me at modestygeek@gmail.com

I will always lend a listening ear. :) I may not always be able to give the best advice but I will definitely send up prayer!

It's been a month since I posted. Wow. Umm....there's not really anything for me to blog about, lolz. I've been having a (generally) good month and I'm really happy with my writing. I just have to remember that first drafts are not going to be perfect! xD

New Head Covering

Got this at Rite-Aid for 6 dollars! They currently 2 for twelve, but Mom could only get me one today.

Not much going on, but I am working on writing the third novel of my SF trilogy. :)

Guess Who Saw Moi?

My lyrical teacher. The night before last, I was at the grocery store with my mom. I saw my lyrical teacher first, and eventually she saw me and said "Hey Kelley!". Wonder if word about what I was wearing will get back to the other teacher, since they both know that I'm "still deciding" about dance (haven't had a chance to tell them my decision...yet).

My Head Covering

This is the scarf I'm wearing today! :)

Georgia Heat and Modest Clothes

It's hot here in Georgia. A few days ago it was 106! :O Anyway, how many of you head coverers and niqabis are staying inside because of the heat? I've been out a little, but it's just so hot! (Also, I've haven't gone outside to scrub the pool for this reason.) Only one of our vehicles has A/C. The SUV's A/C has been out for a couple of years (yeah, you can tell we live on a really tight budget :/). Even in the house, it's a bit hot. Yet I'm wearing a light scarf, denim jumper, a black shirt, and cloth leggings.

No Longer a Hypocrite

I'm not taking dance. I know I've been on and off the decision the whole year, but I've realized that I cannot allow myself to be miserable anymore. Thanks for the prayers. :)

June 19 2012

I know I've ignored my blog for a while, but I've had a few excuses. One, I've been super conflicted lately about dance and all, but aren't I always? Watching Amish, Out Of Order and their modest dresses and head coverings makes me want to be more feminine. Quite honestly, I love wearing ankle length dresses and skirts. It makes me feel so modest and pretty. I don't think that's pride, just contentment that I feel like I'm pleasing Yahweh. I've been thinking lately about my dance teacher and classmates. She's always been so kind and understanding, and when my family has gone through financial hardship, she has always been able to figure out a "payment plan" (that sounds so "offical", but you know what I mean). So, I've been thinking about what's going to happen when I don't enroll again (if so). I was wondering if writing a letter to my teacher (who'll I call Mrs. B.), explaining my actions, would help. She's only seen me in a head covering and a dress thing once, but that was a year ago and I'm not sure if she really noticed. I'm sorry I keep repeating my woes and conflicts with wanting to take dance again. I know I'm being hypocritical, but it's been difficult. It's been ingrained in my life. BTW, my teacher makes sure our dances are clean. At Nationals last week, my dad commented how our studio was "classy", and he said he was disappointed with the other competing studios' dances. He's not trying to be mean, but he said something along the lines of the other dances were "raunchy". I've never wore a bra or underwear before as a costume. The lowest necked thing I've wore is a v-neck, but it covers my area pretty well. Thanks to all those who keep me in their prayers. Hopefully Yahweh will show me the way that He wants me to follow. PS Please keep my sister in prayer. While we were gone to Panama City Beach, one of her two cats, Rose, died. Rose had a bad flea allergy, and things we did weren't working as well. She died Thursday, I believe. My sister cried, and I will admit, I did do. Also pray for the other car, Sandy. They were together for a few good years, around 4 or 5.

June 11, 2012

Oh my goodness! I cannot believe that it's been almost a month since I've posted. It's been quite busy. From chores, schoolwork, family, and other stuff, I completely forgot about my blog. Here's what's going on right now. We're leaving for Panama City, FL at 9 AM, and I think I sleep some of the way there, I've been up all night! XD I'm so excited and not even finished packing. Less than five hours! I might upload some pics. Yahweh bless :)

Life Update

I can't believe it's been sixteen days since my last blog post! My apologies. Anyway, I think I'll just do a " life update " today. The recital was on May 12th, and went considerably well. I enjoyed it very much. Dad's okay, he has been having a few chest pains lately, but he just has to be careful how much he exerts himself. ( Thanks for any and all prayers. :) ) I've had strange dreams lately about dance and the head covering. One was a dream about everytime I went to a restroom stall ( I was in a dance costume ), a Muslim ( covered ) girl would sit in the stall behind me, watching me. Strange, eh? Big cyberhugs to all my readers and subscribers! I appreciate the number of hits I have on this blog. Please tell me if you have any requests for a particular post topic. Yahweh bless!

I Am Not Comfortable In Shorts

( I cut out some of the pic to respect the other girl's privacy. )

Do you see these shorts? They are pulled up a wee bit, but is it appropiate for me to show this.much leg?

No

The outfit itself is immodest, and as I try and immerse myself in more Godlier things and talk to modest women and teens, my desire to dance slides away. This makes me happy. :) I am not taking again after the Jume competition is over, so that's two more months until I am finally free of the worldly, immodest things I have had to wear for performances.

I felt a little conflicted about uploading this pic, but if I am letting a lot of total strangers at the performances see this, why not let my readers see this?

I am by no means perfect, we all stumble. But it's time for me to accept the fact that Yahweh wishes for me to be a Godly, modest teen.

Children Understand Things

Happy Sabbath. :)

Something came to my mind today.

A few months ago, we were watching my dance competition dvd. In one dance, we wore booty shorts ( ugh ), and I remember what my seven year old brother said, it was something like " Aren't you uncomfortable with showing that much of your leg? "

That always amazed me. I don't quite know how to put it into words what that made me realize, but hopefully y'all understand what I mean.

A Wide Headband...for now

The reason I have chosen to wear ( most of the time ) headband until the next two months of dance are ovee is this.

I don't want people looking at me and saying. " She wears a head covering but dances in those outfits?! " This wide headband in the above pic ( it's black ) doesn't make such a big statement like the scarf does.

Though, I have to admit, I love wearing head coverings ( that cover a lot of my head/hair ) so much that I sometimes do put on a scarf. ( Wish I had a veil...oh well, maybe one day. :) )

Yahweh bless. :)

Some Thoughts...

I was looking around for modest clothing and such today, and I thought back to the dancing I do. It may cover the " necessaries ", but I want to cover more. I know that sometimes I may look like ( to others ) that I came from Little House on The Prairie, but there's nothing wrong with a female being feminine.

I just thought of something: I was at the competition, and I was waiting for awards. I had bought a bag of Skittles and a can of Coke. When I had sat down on the stairs, I had been eating a little bit before I looked back behind me a bit, and saw a man looking at me. UGH! See, there were benches up against the walls, and there were some guys sitting there. I don't remember the age of the guy looking at me, it was a bit weird, I guess.

I think back to the fact that we do not need to cause our brothers in Christ....or any man for that matter, to stumble. We need to be careful and mindful of how we dress. I'm not saying you have to cover everything ( unless it is your personal conviction for you to do so ) but let's not go to church in a miniskirt, let's not parade ourselves down the streets in clothing that we know will draw a man's ( or mens' ) attention. You will attract the wrong kind of people most likely if you do that. And using your body to draw someone's attention, is that Godly behavior? How does God describe a woman's behavior in the Bible? Go look, then see if your choice of outfit for the day matches up with it. God bless.

Modest Clothes and Dance

I am very confused sometimes. I feel comfortable in my dance costumes on stage, but off stage and comparing my dance costumes to my every day modest clothes? I feel hypocritical. Truth is, I don't feel like I can continue to wear those costumes and wear modest clothes and head coverings. But I still want to dance. I love competiting and performing, the adrenaline rush is wonderful, LOL. I need to post pictures of my outfits so you all can get an idea of what I'm given to wear. On another note, I found some veils and kapp-type coverings that cover the hair well. :) Here at http://www.mennonitemaiden.com/headcoverings1.html ( Hopefully I can buy from them sometime. )

My 100th Post!

This is my 100th post!

Well, not quite sure what to put. These weeks have been stressful, no matter what we try. My siblings act lazy and immature, and it really stresses me out that they make a big deal out of having to do a few, simple jobs.

Very depressing 100th post, but I feel stressed. I know my parents were broke on my birthday, but my mom said she hasn't forgotten my bday, yet she hasn't done anything.

I just feel useless because no matter what I seem to do, everything around the house is always out of control ( the mess ) and I don't want Dad stressed out because everything around him is a mess.

Sorry, we really need prayer.

Today has been a trying day....

Mom has to work outside the home, so guess who's babysitting three lovely siblings? Me.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I mind, it's just their attitudes.

I sort of started the whole thing. I forgot Mom said we couldn't play on the Wii while she was gone ( because my siblings tend to play for longer periods of time, and they get cranky, which stresses my Dad out. He does not need to get stressed out. ), and I played for around an hour, maybe 2. ( Oops, time slipped away. )

When Dad and my three siblings got back, Jessica said something about me playing Wii. She either reminded me that we weren't supposed to play or it dawned on me.

Later my siblings started to play on it.

My seven year old brother has had a really, really bad attitude. I won't go into it all, but I'm sick of hearing it.

SOMEONE PLEASE TAKE OUR WII!!!!!

Just kidding.

Next time Mom goes off on a long day of work, I'm hiding the Wii remotes and the Nintendo. I don't care if I get yelled at or not, the gaming thing has gone out of control.

Oh crud, it's making me sick. Literally. :/

Mom should be home any minute.

Respect the niqab wearers

Honestly, I don't have any issues with niqabs. Some people call them " body bags " ( which, in my mind, is a very offensive term! ), but if a woman wants to wear them, what harm is she bringing to you?

I know, there are some of those people ( male or female ) who put on niqab and go rob some place, but those are only a few people! We should not judge all niqab-wearers to be terrorists or think that they are going to rob a store.

People aren't always going to agree on the same things ( regarding religion, life, etc. ) but please, if you find that a woman is wearing niqab of her own will, please do not bash her with your words and put her down. This is clearly a decision she has come to in whatever way.

Dance class starts in 17 minutes, I need to go get dressed. Bye!

Where Do You Buy Your Head Coverings?

Where do you buy your head coverings? ( Or niqabs, for those Muslim readers? )

I've never brought a head covering from an online store, but I really really want to, I could find some that cover more hair. ( I have several links to some in my favorites. ) And it seems like every time I have money, I end up spending it on something else.

So, if my dear readers wouldn't mind, where do you buy your head coverings/face veils? If you're not comfortable putting your answer in the Comment section, please feel free to email me. :)

Blessings! Have a great day.

Something that irritates me....

When people take the Lord's name in vain. I know no one's perfect, and I am guilty of it too sometimes, but seriously! There are words such as goodness.

So please, next time you are tempted to say the words " Oh my God " when you are surprised, think about what other word you could use. :)

Blessings

I'm covered but.....

Here's my conflict with taking dance again:

Sure, one of my costumes this year has a V-neck, but I don't think I'm exposing a lot.

But I want to wear very covering ( scarfs, kapps, veils, do you know what I mean ) head coverings and long dresses.

Yet I worry about people looking at me and saying " How can she go perform and wear THAT but wear head coverings, skirts/dresses? " It's the hypocritical part I worry about.

( Note: I cannot choose my own costume since I am involved in the group and production dances. )

Thoughts?

Dad's Diagnosis

Congestive heart failure :/ He told me last night. Apparently it seems to run on his side of the family.

Update on Dad

Got the staples removed yesterday, still seems to be getting dizzy.

Also, please pray that he can stop smoking. I think he's tried before, and I think he's finally trying again.

Thanks. :)

PS He's been smoking for a little over 40 years, so I imagine that being hooked on it for so long, it might be more difficult to come off of.

Blogger-Old Posts Resurrected

Hey, if you see an old blog post supposedly posted recently, it's because I most likely accidentally pressed Publish on it when I viewed the post on a draft/edit mode. ( When I should've just pressed View, if that makes any sense! )

Don't Dress Immodestly for the Heat

When I was walking around at the festival, I noticed something.

It wasn't deathly hot, as far as I was told it was about 75 or 80ishF.

When it's hot, what do you do? Usually if you wear jeans, some of you would wear shorts. Some of you would probably wear different lengths of shorts, but let me get back to the point.

Others wore skirts. I'm not talking about miniskirts ( though I did see a really really short miniskirt ), I am talking about skirts. Long skirts.

I am not instructing you to bundle up in the heat or wear what maybe uncomfortable to you, no. I want to know why when it gets hot outside, some people seem to strip down and wear little things??

Ugh, that doesn't sound right. I have worn a long skirt, shirt, and a head covering in the heat before, and I wasn't ( if at all ) uncomfortable.

I know some females aren't skirt and head coverers, but....do y'all see what I'm saying?

Here's the best day I can figure out to say it: Just because it's hot outside doesn't mean you have to dress immodestly. Wear shorts or skirts if you want, but please wear one that is an appropiate length.

*Disclaimer: I am a teenager and I don't have the tact of an adult. I am doing the best I can to have tact and I apologize if I haven't worded any of my posts right, and offended any of my readers. :)

Update on Dad

He seems to be okayish. He still gets dizzy spells sometimes, and since he doesn't seem to want to keep his arm brace on, his chest area where the thing was implanted, it's bruised. Thanks for the prayers. :)

The post I found....quite...well...don't know what to call it....

Before you click the link I have included, please know that I mean no disrespect to others who disagree with wearing the head covering. I believe everyone of different beliefs should be respected.

This post to me just....astounded me. I know not everyone believes in the head coverings, but the way the poster wrote it seemed a bit...harsh? Perhaps disrespectful in the way the poster wrote it. Definitely a bit rude at the end.

StevenAndersonFamily-Why Ladies Should Not Wear Head Coverings

Spring's here!!! But....what modest attire can you wear to swim in??

Spring's here! Time for sunscreen, swimming pools, beaches....

Which may bring up a question for some modest-dressing females: What could I wear that's modest while swimming, but still doesn't make me sweat profusely?

First, I would suggest searching online for modest swimming attire. Everyone has different tastes, and I'm sure you'll at least find one thing you like.

But what do I wear for swimming?

Ah, I sometimes wear black leggings and a skirt that comes way above my knee. As I ( seem to ) keep growing ( taller ), my skirts get shorter. ( And the leggings cling to my skin, and I don't think that's exactly appropiate. )

I found a " dress " at Wal-Mart once. Not necessarily made to be a swim dress, but I've decided that since I like to wear longer dresses and skirts in public, I'm going to use it for swimming.

Lovely day

Spring has sprung!

And the pool's been set up, being filled up.

Awesome!

Just means I need to locate my modest swimming " dress ". Thought I put it somewhere.

What are you doing on this lovely day, or in this lovely month?

I'm Bacckkk!!! Non-Muslim Hijabs??

Anyway, sorry I haven't been on to blog, I've had some really bad allergy stuff going on. ( Thank Yahweh I still had some allergy medicene! )

I was thinking about hijabs.

Hijabs are the headscarfs worn by Muslim women, but some non-Muslim women don them to.

I like hijabs, they are modest and I like the feeling of a scarf wrapped on my head and around my neck a lot. The only problem I have?

As much as I lovveee hijabs, I don't want people to think I'm Muslim. ( Which, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. ) Yet I want to portray the image that I am, a Christian head coverer.

What are y'alls thoughts on non-Muslim hijabis?

My Life

Honestly, my mind is drawing a blank. I can't think of what would make a good blog post! :/

Ok, maybe a life update.

I got the rough draft of my essay done.....Dad is on meds for his heart ( please pray for him. ).......April is my birthday, and I will be performing with my dance class at the Bloomin' Festival.....recital is May....Nationals in June....

Did I mention that next school year I will hopefully be a high-school home-schooler? :) I may take a placement test...... ( Though I doubt I'll be capable of doing 9th grade Math, maybe 7th or 8th. )

:)I have been meaning to make another video for my Youtube channel, but I have to be the only one in the house when that happens!

Just letting y'all know I haven't completely forgotten Youtube. ;)

Lately I have been thinking about the dance studio I attend and the immodest costumes we are to wear.

( Did I mention that we placed 1st in our catogory in tap? :) )

I think that I have been de-sensitized to the ICs until I came to wear feminine, modest clothing in my life away from dance. Wearing FMCs now, I am more aware of the immodesty to which we are subjected to.

It's amazing how we view things according to our beliefs. Some may not blink an eye at someone wearing a mini-skirt, but others certainly would!

•sighs•But I had fun at Jacksonville.

(Any advice on how to explain to my dance friends if they want to get into a conversation about dance after I no longer attend? How will I explain? )

Jacksonville FL-My Last Regional Competition

Well, competition's over. But we did awesome! Tap got first place, and we've had a rough history with that dance.

I can't believe this has been my last " regional " competition ( I live in GA but we've done Regionals here in FL. ) I can't believe we have to leave this nice hotel tomorrow, but I've been happy with the ways things have been going these past couple of days. A mini-vacation, Dad calls it.

I saw a covered woman today. :) And I've been seeing a lot of feminine, modest-dressing women too. I know that the town I'm live in is a lot smaller than Jacksonville, but I'm encouraged by the modesty and some head coverings.
